What You Journal About is Like Sailing a Ship. So, Which Best Describes Your Sailing?

1) You Have No Idea How to Sail

You’ve heard about journaling and how powerful it is and are interested in trying it out but when you think about sitting down in front of a blank page to write, you are frustrated and overwhelmed where to even start.

2) You Are Sailing in Circles

You’ve journaled a few times, and maybe even tried out a popular technique like the bullet journal or morning pages.

It's fun and you can see how the practice is helpful, but nothing has really “clicked” for you and you’re left wondering if you’re doing it right and when the “insights” are going to start happening…

3) You Are Sailing Somewhere You Don’t Actually Want to Go

You started journaling for a specific reason and are feeling like you want to expand your practice or change directions but aren’t sure how to modify it to suit your growth.

When you’re here, journaling feels frustrating, boring, or like an unfulfilling chore.

Here's What You Do to Fix it...

Step 1 - Understand Journaling Better (Learn How to Sail)

Journaling, like a sailboat, is a complex tool and you need to know how it works and what it’s capable of doing otherwise you’re not going to get very far.

The deeper your understanding, the more effective you’ll be at using the journal/boat to get where you want to go.

Step 2 - Understand Yourself Better (Know Where You’re Sailing)

You need to have a destination in mind, otherwise you’ll either be wandering aimlessly or arrive somewhere you don’t want to be.

When it comes to journaling you need to know what you’re passionate about, what makes you tick and where you want to go in life.

The more deeply you understand these things the more precise and efficient you can be in getting there.

The faster you do these 2 steps the faster you grow, achieve goals, break through barriers & change patterns to move forward in your life.

Introducing Journal About—The Online Course to Figure out What Should Write in Your Journal

Journaling is a powerful tool for self-awareness and personal growth...if you know how to use it.

It's powerful because of it's versatility, but this versatility makes it easy to feel overwhelmed at what to write about or to feel like you're not doing it right for what's important for you.

However, if you can crack the code for your journaling and get clear on what you're writing, it will feel like a reward every time you sit down in front of your journal.

This will open you up for the massive benefits of journaling, which is what Journal About is for.

Here's What You Will Get from Journal About

You’ll get access to all available video lessons making up this course, each with practical steps you can implement in your journaling practice.

Journal About can be completed in a week, though you can take as long as you like to complete it at your own pace.

You can also complete the course whenever you are ready and are not required to start on a set date.

At the end of Journal Anyway, you’ll have a clear vison for:

How to use different types of journaling for what you're wanting to accomplish.
The conscious and subconscious areas of life you should be focusing your journaling on.
How to design a journaling practice to maximize your personal growth.

What Journal About is NOT...

I want your confidence in the purchase of this course. So let's be clear on what it is NOT.

  • This is not a substitution for professional therapy - I want to be clear to state I am not a licensed therapist, and I'm not qualified to "treat trauma," and it's not ethical for me to advertise anything close to that. Traditional therapy deals with mental health issues, and helps mental health patients. In this course I will work WITH you to achieve goals, break through obstacles and barriers to change patterns and move forward using journaling.
  • This is not a quick fix for your problems - While I have no doubt you will experience some serious Ah-Ha moments during this course about yourself as well as faster growth in the long run when you implement what you learn, real, meaningful change takes time and effort and there are no "magic bullets" here.
  • This is not a pre-formatted journal - You will be building your journal entries based on YOU and what YOU need, so don't expect a template where you just fill in the blanks (unless that's what you need, in which case you will design it for yourself).
  • This is not a hardcopy journal - This is a course that will show you what to journal about, it's not a physical product.

In short, this is a course for building a personalized journaling habit. No “magic bullets,” no fill-in-the-blank entries, no traditional therapy.

The goal is to work together to create a journal entry that lights you up to achieve goals, break through obstacles and change patterns.

What They Say About Journaling...

A good way to help you distill what's important.

A celebration of who you are.

"Documenting little details of your everyday life becomes a celebration of who you are."

Carolyn V. Hamilton - Author

A journal reminds you of your goals and of your learning in life.

What You Learn in Journal About

This online course is separated into 3 modules. Not only will you learn about how to best use the tool of journaling and how to discover your own priorities, but you’ll also be guided through the practical application of each and every step to designing the best journaling habit for your needs.

Module 01: Understanding Yourself

Discover a deeper you. This module will show you where to focus your journaling for what’s important for you, as well as how to best hold yourself accountable and your own subconscious blocks.

Module 02: Demystifying Journaling

Discover the different types of journaling and what they are used for. This includes the four different categories of journaling, a scheduled vs. serendipitous practice, and structured vs. free flow journaling. This will make sure you always know what type of journaling to use depending on what’s needed so you don’t feel lost, bored or overwhelmed when you sit down to write.

Module 03: Designing Your Journal Practice

In this module we’ll bring together what you learned from module one and two to design a personalized journaling practice that excites you and helps you transform by accomplishing goals, breaking through barriers, or changing patterns.

Hi, I'm Dave

I have journaled about every day for over 10 years—over 3,718 days now—and it's been the best habit I ever started. As I have deepened my understanding of myself it has drastically changed my life for the better.

Now I want to help you create your own consistent journaling practice.

How is Journal About different?

This course is specifically made for anyone to build an evolving journaling practice helping them continually accomplish goals, break through obstacles and change patterns.

There are 3 aspects to this:

It's Growth Focused

Because journaling is so versatile it's easy to jump from prompt to prompt and style to style and feel like you're just going in circles, left wondering when all the insights are going to happen. Journal About will help quickly identify the areas in life you want to change and give you a framework to start making meaningful progress.

It's Personalized & Customizable

One of the main goals of Journal About is to help you understand yourself better. Your quirks, idiosyncrasies and worldview all play an important role in building a powerful journaling practice. That's why you won't find fill-in-the-blank templates or pages of pre-planned guided entries in this course, but rather a process for building a practice specifically fit for you.

It's an Everlasting Solution for your Evolution

Most guided journals are "giving you a fish" instead of teaching you how to fish. They are great place to start, but most people will outgrow them or become reliant on them, dropping the habit when they forget to repurchase a new one.  Journal About isn't a journal you need to repurchase, it's dynamic process you can use over and over for your evolving needs.

Frequently asked questions

I've never been able consistently journal, will this actually work for me?

Maybe. But you still have to show up and do the work. That being said, I've built this course to give you the best chance of creating a practice that lights you up sit down to write.

I have so much to do & journaling just adds more to the list, will I have time for this?

This is a self-paced course so you can go as slow or as fast as you like. One of the keys to staying consistent for the long run is to keep daily entries under 15 minutes, which I believe everyone has time for if it's truly important. One of the goals of this course is to make this as easy to accomplish as possible.

What if I miss a day?

It's ok. This course isn't focused on journaling daily, it's more about figuring out what to journal about. The course itself is not required to show up for daily, it's go at your own pace.

I'm afraid of someone reading what I write, how do I keep it private?

If you are going for handwritten the best way to keep it private is to hide it somewhere when you're not writing. If your privacy is of utmost importance then I recommend going the digital route so you can password protect your entries.

Will it be handwritten, digital, free-writing or structured journaling?

This will be completely up to you based on you think will work best (how to figure this out will be discussed in the course). For me personally, I use a combination of all of them for my practice.

What if I feel like my life isn't interesting enough to journal about?

This is a common occurrence when people start out journaling and it usually happens because people have a certain idea of what journaling is "supposed" to be, which can get overwhelming and lead to burn out. The system I will teach you is simple and can be used for the long-run (I've been using it for over 10 years now).

I Tell Everyone this About Journaling, and I Mean it...

Buy a journal and start documenting your life by saving...

Your favorite & least favorite moments. What the clouds looked like at 6:43pm on a Sunday.

Words to live by, ideas, and grocery lists. Notes on people you’ve met or strangers you see every day.

Beautiful language and new songs you discover. Scribbles. Memories of your childhood. Places you want to go, or places you’ve been. Your passions, your desires, your doodles.

How you feel in this. EXACT. moment. Fill the journal up. When you’re done, buy a new one and do it again. Reread it in a year and then again in 10. Reread it when you need a good laugh or when you’re spiraling out of control.

These are moments of you’re life worth remembering and they are so important.

I can't wait to see you on the inside of Journal About.
